Be a Part of the Guiness Book of World Records! Be a Part of Internet History! Contribute to the Largest Photomosaic ever made!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Idea: I recently learned about a very fascinating website called the million dollar homepage. This Webpage had a fantastic idea, and I applaud Alex Tew for thinking about it. However, I have one major problem with his website. After Alex Tew sold his pixels, his website became quite obnoxious. It was very ugly and unpleasing to the eye. Just 1 million pixels of bright colors with no appeal to them what so ever. That is where the Million Picture Photomosaic comes in. I would like to make a piece of Internet Art. To do this I want to give people the opportunity to send me pictures. You can send me any type of picture you want. It could be a painting you did, your favorite family photo, or even your daughter's first drawing. As I collect photos, I will display them on this website until I collect my 1 million photographs. At that point in time, I will hold an auction for the 1,000,001st photograph which I will make the photomosaic out of. This way, instead of seeing a mess as in the million dollar hompage, I am going to create a piece of art from all your photographs! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What if I'm the winner of the last photograph? Once we have a winning bidder for the photograph that the photomosaic will be made of, I will get in personal contact with the bidder. I will ask for the photograph, and I will determine if it will be an appropriate photograph for the world record. If it is not appropriate I will continue to collect photographes from the winning bidder until we come to an agreement on which photograph to use. I will then start using some very intense processing power and generate the photomosaic that contains the most pictures of any photomosaic! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Current Guiness World Records according to 2008 Book of World Records: The World Record for the largest photomosaic is held by Spain. It is a Photomosaic of a child smiling that is 40.6 meters long and just under 14 meters wide. 95,000 pictures were used. Check out the record here. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Why Should I buy Space? There are several reasons why you should buy space.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How can I pay? As of now, there is are only two ways to pay. One is with a paypal account, and the other is with your credit card, through paypal. Once my project takes off, I will incorporate other methods of payment, that skip the paypal process. In the future, you will be able to pay directly from my website. I also plan to incorporate Google Checkout. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Process: First thing to do is to buy space. You can buy as many spaces as you'd like. I'll be selling these spaces in any form possible. This includes, but is not limited to, directly from this website, ebay, word of mouth, and craigslist. Once you buy space, you will recieve a confirmation email with instructions on how to send me the photograph you would like to include. I will then take the photograph and store it on my computer. I will also host your photograph on my website on a rotational basis. The sooner you buy space, the more views your photograph will get. Buying space gets you these items: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Logistics: Hosting photographs is much more difficult than hosting pixels. I would say the average photograph taken with a point and shoot camera is approximately 1 megabyte. That means, unless the pictures are smaller, the final product would be approximately 1 terabyte in size. If I am to distribute this work, that is far too large of a file. It would take weeks for just one person to download the entire file. So, with that said I must put restrictions on the files you can send me. The picture needs to be square. It needs to be 200x200 pixels large, and a file size no larger than 9 kilobytes. Here's why. One million photographs are going to be arranged in a 1000x1000 picture box. If each image is 9kb, the final image is going to be 8.58 gigabytes. I can then fit that on a dual layer DVD or even a Blu-Ray/HD-Dvd, assuming the burnable discs are out by the end of my plight. If each image is 200x200 pixels, the final image will span over 150 monitors! (This is assuming a monitor resolution of 1280x1024) I realize this in itself is already a HUGE picture, but I think manageable nonetheless. Since I don't yet know what the final photograph will look like, I am banking on statistics to provide me with the appropriate photographs for any final picture. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What if you fail? Failure is not an option! My success depends on you! If you go buy a picture, I'll be one closer to success!
