What Is a Photomosaic?A photomosaic, to put it simply, is a picture. On a computer, a picture consists of several pixels. The Picture Below is 200x200 pixels. If you buy a picture, it will be displayed as this size.
Now, you see the picture because each Pixel is a certain color. When alligned correctly the picture appears as it does. A photomosaic is mostly the same idea. Except for one major difference. With a photomosaic, you use an entire photograph to represent one pixel in the entire photomosaic. Notice how there is a lot of green in the photo above. In a photomosaic, this photo may represent a green pixel. Here is an example of a photomosaic that I recently created: Firstly, I have been taking digital photographs for approximately 8 years now, and have never really deleted any of them. Therefore I have over 17,000 pictures on my computer right now. Using these pictures for my library, I have created a photomosaic of one of my favorite pictures of myself.
With this photo I created a mosaic with my 17,000 other images, so this photo in a sense encapsulates my entire history with a digital camera!
Go ahead and zoom in on the image above to see the individual pictures! Also, if you would like to see a much, much nicer photomosaic, click here to see probably the best photomosaic I have seen! Want to learn more? Check out Wikipedia!
